Purpose and need
Make every bus stop in the region usable by people who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility devices, starting with the stops that serve the most riders and essential services.
Project overview
A 2022 inventory found that 41 percent of the region's 1,380 bus stops did not have a firm, level boarding area meeting ADA requirements. The program prioritizes stops by ridership, proximity to medical and social services, and requests from riders.
Phase 1 (complete)
Between 2023 and May 2026, 212 stops were upgraded with concrete boarding pads, curb ramps, and sidewalk connections. 64 of those stops received new shelters and benches.
Phase 2 (in design)
Phase 2 will upgrade 180 additional stops. The construction Invitation for Bids is open through October 20, 2026.
